SINNERS NEWS RENDEZVOUS by Luce Mandlebaum, President,
Steel Pier Sinners Fan Club In addition to rapidly
approaching tour dates in Cleveland and Pittsburgh
(lucky rust belters!), I'm happy to report that
your favorite band and mine (no, not Mountain!)
is back in the studio! Under the strict tutelage
of producer/musician/guru Mike "Like a Mother
Fucker" Fornatale, the Sinners are finally buckling
down and making that funky-hot slab o' wax we
all knew they could. The band is atypically mum
on the initial sessions, but after some coaxing,
report that "it's all good." When reached for
comment, producer Fornatale had no comment, but
sources close to this writer report overhearing
him exclaim: "Eight tracks of cowbell, theramin,
and slide whistle?! Somebody get those damn kids
outta my studio!" Good luck and rock on, Sinners!
Tuesday, July 13-- After winning
a slot in Little Steven’s Underground Garage
semi-finals Friday night, the Steel Pier Sinners
won the regional finals round on their home turf
in Asbury Park, NJ at The Stone Pony Saturday
night. The band will perform at Irving Plaza in
NYC, Friday July 23rd with nine other winning
bands and headliner act, Rocket to the Crypt.
Steel Pier Sinners were the last
band to perform at Saturday night’s regional
finals competition. The band exploded with gritty,
twangy garage energy for 15 minutes and stole
the stage. It may not have been the band’s
tightest set, but The Sinners played with more
heart, determination and drive than ever before.
When announcing the winner, Mike Fornatale of
the Underground Garage, said, “This decision
came down to what is garage. When I heard this
band, it made me feel like the first time I heard
Louie, Louie by the Kingsmen.”
“There is no way I thought
he meant us. The three other bands we played
with: Anything People (NY), No Soap Radio (NJ)
and Somebody’s Muther (MI) were amazing.”,
said Steel Pier Sinners’ lead vocalist/guitarist
Trina Scordo. Then Mike Fornatale announced, “I
said it last night and I will say it again, the
after-party is at their house.”
At that moment the band new they
had won; so had their friends and fans in the
audience who came up on stage to join in the celebration.
And yes, their was an after-party at their house
in Asbury Park that when on until 5:30 Sunday
morning, complete with a brief display of street
fireworks.
Steel Pier Sinners will play at
The Milky Way Bar in Jamaica Plain, MA this Friday,
July 16th. Their next local show is Tuesday, July
20th at The Wonder Bar is Asbury Park, NJ. Then
it is on to the Underground Garage Finals July
23rd at Irving Plaza in NYC.

"Awesome, twangy garage band
with stellar songs. Nice balance of slide guitar,
